If you want to work in any bar, club, cafe, restaurant or venue (including liquor stores and bottle shops) that sells alcohol in Victoria, you will need a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate, accredited by Liquor Control Victoria (LCV). Our RSA course in Melbourne’s CBD is approved by LCV.

In Victoria, the RSA certification is valid for three years. To maintain compliance and ensure uninterrupted employment, it’s essential to renew your RSA before it expires. To renew, you must complete a refresher course provided by Liquor Control Victoria. This course is free of charge and can be completed online through the RSA Online Refresher Course offered by VCGLR. In Australia, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) requirements differ by state and territory. Upon completing the RSA course with CHT, you will be awarded two certificates:
- Liquor Control Victoria RSA certificate – mandatory for all establishments in Victoria.
- Nationally recognised unit of competence - SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol. This certification is accepted across all Australian states except NSW. In NSW, you must complete a local bridging course to obtain the state-specific competency card.
The RSA training includes a range of topics, such as understanding legal obligations, identifying intoxicated patrons, effective methods for refusing service, managing challenging situations, and comprehending the impact of alcohol on the body.

Our in-person RSA course lasts for six hours (excluding breaks). During the session, participants receive direct instruction, participate in discussions, and complete assessments. You have seven days from the course date to finish your assessment. If you need additional time, you can request an extension for $20.
Once you are deemed competent in your assessment, your certificate will be issued within three business days.
Since the course and assessments are conducted in English, learners must be able to read, write, and comprehend English to successfully complete the training.
